Question:

if i buy an exhaust system for my jeep wrangler TJ will it matter if i have a lift or not?

i have a stock suspension and i want to buy the Banks Monster exhaust system but i heard for the gibsons the exhausts fit differently for those wranglers with lift and those without. i dont want to buy the Banks and then not be able to install it cuz i dont have a lift or change the exhaust system after i get a lift.

Answer:

You can fit 31s in there, but if you offroad you will stuff the tires in the wheelwells. If you want to go bigger, consider getting a $200 Budget Boost, which will give you a little more suspension clearance. The 31s will then clear easily, and you may be able to put 32s under there (but again you'll stuff them when you offroad). Also keep in mind the strength of your axle and the size of your engine. If you have a 2.5L engine, the bigger tires will cost you in power and highway speed.
Where you run into a problem on the Jeep wrangler is when you run the exhaust pipe over the axle and out the rear. A lift kit changes the location of the axle and often with different shocks you run into minor clearance issues. An exhaust shop can bend the pipe to the shape you need, IF it is necessary. The muffler and sound won't change. I recommend welding the tip on so you don't lose while enjoying your Wrangler off road. Good luck.
