Question:

If I have 2 (visible) burst copper pipes from the water heater, is it likely more are burst?

I had a home inspection on a house I am purchasing and the inspector noticed that there were 2 copper pipes that had burst coming from the water heater. We are going to have a plumber come and fix them, but i was wondering if it is likely that more could be burst, or if when pipes burst it is usually focused in one area?

Answer:

Actually, I've never heard of pipes being burst because of a water heater. The breaks may be in the area of the water heater, but I doubt that the water heater caused it. Burst pipes generally happen from water being left in them when the temp. drops below 32 and there's no heat in the house. If that's even a possibility, then yes, it's possible that there could be more. The only way to tell is to repair the ones you see, and if possible, run hands along the back side of all visible pipes and if there's a burst area you or your plumber should be able to feel them immediately. Also, once the known breaks have been repaired an air check should be possible, where they pressurize the entire water system and listen for air escaping. As a last resort, once all known breaks are repaired you can energize with water, opening the valve just slightly, so you can get some pressure to see if there are more leaks, but not enough to spray it all over if there are. Repair as you find them.
Mine was at age 5 when I was dressed for communion and new all of my little prayers and such and showed up at the church and the priest told my mom that I couldn't have communion because I didn't go to enough catechism classes.
Like the Old Kid it came to me when I read the Bible for myself (5 times to make sure I had not missed something) All my life I had listened and fought for the parts that people handpicked and forcefed meit was like being brainwashed. It was quite an eye-opener for me. I notice now when I visit some churches for special occasions that it seems more like folks are there to be social and be seen.
in step with probability the shutoff nevertheless helps slightly water out. freezes at go out and then freezes something of the pipe. once I first examine your description i seen all those circumstances i chanced on burst pipes because of the fact somebody left the hose attached and ice ran precise in the line. even though it seems such as you took the right precautions. playstation after awhile sweating a pipe will become no Problemo
Mostly this will happen in over pressure boiler and the pressure relief valve is not properly working. Is you water heater has a separate tank? if so, then i could say the copper pipe was so thin to hold the pressure of hot water and if you fix the area where it burst? it will solve the problem 100 % in that area but no guarantee that the problem will not happen again in other area.To avoid this to happen try to set the valve into halfway open from fully open and check also the pressure relief valve if it it's properly working maybe not.The copper pipe can usually hold the steady water pressure 30 psi and the relief valve release the pressure when it reach more than 30 psi.So, good luck check the item i said. Owss.maybe the said relief valve i mention is not so familiar here it goes how looks likefrom the water heater tank before you reach to the top of the tank check the side approximately 10 bellow from the top there's a brass thing with a liver on it that's the pressure release valve pull that liver slowly but make it sure Youre body or foot away from the water exit otherwise you will be burn by the hot water .Just be care fullGood Luck
