If there was a fire in a public place, would you remain calm or start running around like a headless chicken?
People get drunk and pull the fire alarms because they think it's funny. They get suspended/expelled from the institution when they get caught.
Hybrid cages (half visor / half shield) like those are a bit heavier plus the visor part fogs / scratches up like crazy in roller due to increased perspiration. You normally have a minute or two inbetween shifts - plenty of time to lift the helmet or take it off, have something to drink and put it back on your head.
I had a fire alarm go off at like 2 AM once in the dorms I was in last year. That sucked a lot because it was also really, really cold out. I think someone was cooking something that burned or something. Usually they're during the day, though. I'm pretty sure one or two happened when I wasn't even in my room. Our fire alarms sound like death. They're incredibly loud and they go off in every room, so you absolutely cannot escape the annoying sound. You can hear the alarms out in the hallway first and then they go off in the rooms so it's about half a minute of thinking ''Are you serious right now?'' before it's too loud to do anything but try and gtfo.
