has sloped ceiling and motel air conditioner under the only windowHaving fans off it is 78 with them blowing down it is 86Should fans blow up or be off?
The kata/form is the styleWithout using the kata/form in a match you're not using the styleIf everyone just punched and kicked it'll be called kickboxing, a great example is the mma/k-1,etcThe reason why every style is unique to call itself a different style is because of the way how one would deploy and apply the techniquesEverything starts from the kata/formPeople say kata don't work and they bring up many justification to defend their points but there's a reason why kata/forms were inventedIt's there for a reason This is what I think of kata/form: To build muscle memory upon applying the techniquesTo understand the reason behind the movementsTo expand one movement to different situationTo refineBut all of this is too hard manyA simple punch and kick while adding in some grappling is the best choice for mostThese folks consider themselves Karateka? Judoka? Kung-fu practioners? If you don't use the techinques you're not using the respective styleThe kata/form are the foundations-the bones to the style.
the fans are pulling the heat off the ceiling the attic temp must be very high or very little insulation in attic, leave the fans off.
I am totally with Kokoro and just wanted to add that some Kung Fu styles like Shaolin Kung Fu are also a collection of many different styles, so this is not unusualIn Shaolin Kung Fu you are taught one form, maybe two a beginner form and a more advanced form of different stylesAnd the MMA guys thought they invented the mixingHA! They just reinvented the wheel and are proud to have done so not realizing it already existed and has so for a thousand years, maybe moreIf you look at the old Kata Chinto, Gojushiho, Kunsanku, Naihanchi and Passai (those are the ones I run) they are so different in their character, being different styles is the only thing that does make sense.
I know that it was very common for people to learn just 3 Kata, which were chosen by their instructors at the timeFunakoshi took Kata from different Karate styles, saying that times have changed and people wanted more Kata in less depth rather more depth in less KataFrom the other hand there is as style that has 60 of them, so I don't know if that was accurate in all occasionsPractical self-defense can be quite simple in a sense, so I wouldn't be surprised if a martial artist back then knew only 3 Kata.Keep on mind that in Yip Man's lineage of Wing Chun there are just 6 forms If I wanted to create something based on experience for practical self-defense and other positive reasons, most probably it would be just 5-6 forms. The too many forms can be argued that are quite unnecessary for practical self-defense, making a martial art more of an encyclopedia of martial arts knowledge, than something elseThe reason why there are so many forms in one style today, can be variedI have heard that it was part of an effort to transfer their culture also.
