Question:

Im gonna have the engine on my truck rebuilt and I was jw what the diff between a roller cam and a reg cam?

I have a 93 Chevy Fullsize Z71 Blazer, Im searching online for master rebuild kits and I would like to beef it up a little bit, Whats the diff between a roller cam and a regular cam, and also the diff between hydro lifters and roller lifters, I would just like some advice on a rebuild kit for my truck.

Answer:

Roller cams provide a broader power range than regular hydralic camsThey also are much easier on the valve train especially if you use full blown needle bearing roller rockers (like Crane GOLD rockers)If you plan to do a a lot of highway driving, they will help because it puts less of a strain on the valve train at a constant RPM level than a regular hydralic set upThe hydralic roller setup is also good for 200-300 RPM more than the regular hydralic setup before valve floatNow for the costMy big block CRANE GOLD roller rocker set up cost 450 dollarsThe CRANE Hydralic rollers were another 400 dollars and the CRANE roller cam was 250 dollars for a parts cost of 1,100.00 dollars!!! Would I do it all over again (roller)?? Yes, but the performance difference was less than I anticipatedSo as usual, it's your callIf you are on a restricted budget, in my opinion the money could be spent more wisely elsewhereI probably picked up around 20HP over a hydralic setup with the same CAM specs
The blow on insulation foam , your talking about blowing it on the inside of the roof rafters will probably pay for itself in a couple of yrsor fasterIt is not cheapBut it is worth the money.
One really needs to know what kind of house you have not just the age, the style of roof will make a big difference as to what kind of insulation and the way it is installedIn your case I would be seriously concerned about my attic ventilation as it has a HUGE role in weather or not your insulation is going to make a differenceIf it were me I would get a number of quotes so I could make that very important INFORMED decisionPersonally I do not think I would invest the time or money in radiant barriers as you live in a warm climate and are primarily concerned with removing the heat from your homecheers
