when the weather get cold in Chicago, my garage door starts acting up I'll press the button on my remote and the doors will start to open but it stop, I have to let the down thwn I'll press the button for it to go up, I'm doing this several time in a day, whats wrong?
check for excessive amounts of grease in the roller tracks & on the door mechanism. this grease can freeze & affect the door operation. clean if needed. hope it helps
The cold is making more drag on the worm or chain and wheel grease . Put a little more tension on the two springs and ease that tension .right now when the door opens the higher the door goes the less tension those springs have . I'm a builder 30 years.
The cold weather probably has cause the roller tracks to have some distortion because metal shrinks when it gets cold. So its causing a slight bind. You should have a force adjustment screw in the opener you may need to turn it some. Get the owners manual and check to see how many turns equals what force.
Your garage obviously doesn't enjoy the cold and therefore refuses to open the door for you completely. Maybe you should have a chat with your garage, get it a warm blanket and some hot chocolate and ask it nicely to never do it again. Make the garage believe that every time it opens the door for you completely in the winter, you'll give it a nice treat. I'm sure it'll totally start working with you and not against you anymore.
Doors, like people, get stiff in cold weather. First, never try adjusting the springs unless you know what you're doing. Often times, lubricating the door will work wonders. Check to see if the front of the door is rubbing against the frame or weather stripping. Inspect all the rollers to see if they spin properly. You could have some worn rollers/bad bearings. Open and close the door by hand, and see if it binds up somewhere. If the door works ok, but is a little stiff, the force setting on the opener can be adjusted. Do it a little at a time just until the door opens and closes all the way.
