P stands for the p orbitals and is the S orbitals the element is P(Phosphorous)lets break it down a little 1S2 the one stands for what row it is in so first row the S represents the S orbital which are the first two columns on the periodic table expect for the very first row both hydrogen and helium fall under the S orbital the 2 represents how many to go across so to make this problem simpler you could add up the 2+2+6+2+3 to get 15 which is what the atomic number is for Phosphorous
