Question:

In which of the following situations would a compass probably give an incorrect reading?

in the bushin an aluminum dinghyin a carnear an iron ore mine

Answer:

D near an iron ore mine
Metal will disrupt the magnetic field used to operate the compass. Aluminum being nonferrous will not effect it. I say in your car or near the mine could offer bad readings
rofl 'bread' Magnetic field's can be diverted by some sort of enclosed ferromagnetic metal (metal which gets effected by magnetism). A car would provide this; the car would act as a shield to the earths natural magnetism, protecting the compass from the influence it has. An iron ore mine could have an induced magnetism in it, causing it to influence the compasses direction but it would need to be relatively strong and in a direction other than the earths natural magnetism. for this to happen there would need to be quite violet earthquakes at the mine site such that the majority of the entire iron ore deposit was rotated. i would just go with the car. but if allowed select both.
