Question:

Indestructable laminate flooring question?

We bought a house with laminate flooring and were told by a "professional" in a "certain flooring department" that laminate floors such as Pergo were "indestructable". Now, not even 6 months into living in our new home, we have a scratch. Does anyone know how we can fix it, hide it, etc. without replacing the whole floor?

Answer:

there are touchup stick you can buy that work well, the sales men lied flat out to you, the is no indestructable flooring , not even stone.
Try scrubbing with a little soap & water. Use one of the sponges with the traditional sponge on one side and the green abrasive stuff on the other. If that doesn't work you could either try a little paint thinner or call the maker - Pergo; Wilsonart; et al and ask them what to do and what warrenty coverage may be available. Worst case scenario, I believe the dealers have experts that can come and replace a single board. But it's probably expensive. Good luck.
That would depend a lot on the damage. Is it just a surface scratch? Or a deep gouge? There is a product called 'gell-gloss' you can get at a hardware store that will take care of surface flaws, as are colored 'scratch repair' pens in various colors. BTW, there is no such thing as 'indestructible' flooring, but the Pergo comes pretty close. Perhaps it it covered in your warranty?
I have a dark laminate floor. Three days after it was installed, I was moving the coffee table and scratched the floor. Me and my husband were sick. We thought we would have to pull up the entire floor to replace the one plank that was scratched. Knowing that the plank was ruined anyway, we tried several different things. The only thing that worked was the Guardsman Touch - Up Pen. It was a pack of three different colored markers from Wal-Mart. They are made for repairing scratches. Follow the directions and they will work. It has been almost two months since I repaired the scratch and it looks good as new.
Check out Pergo website, or call the professional and make him answer the question.
