Insulating my attic - any good ideas from experienced people?
All is well from Symphony X down to Soundgarden.
You seem like one of those people that pretends to listen to classical music to validate your taste in musicAt least throw in something slightly less known like Debussy or Stravinsky (I do not listen to classical music).
I have a better question: Why the fk do you care what I think about your musical taste? Seriously, caring what an idiot like me thinks of your musical taste is totally not rock rollEven though I also like some of the stuff you like (Maiden, Mozart, Tallica, whatever), it doesn't fkin' matter what I thinkYou like what you like, and you like it because you like itThat's what rock roll is all aboutI went to a Beethoven / Bach recital wearing leather pants and a smelly denim cutoff over a ripped tee shirt, and the next month I wore a business suit (tie and jacket) to see Judas Priest and Slayer as the opening actWhy? Because that's what I wanted to listen to and that's what I happened to feel like wearing at the time, and anybody who said you can't do that was proven wrong the minute they said itRock roll isn't a mode of dress or a style of music, it's being who you are and not having to explain it to anyone.
I have insulated my attic successfully and offer the following: 1) Of course you insulate the floor of the attic NOT the interior roof surfaceUse roll insulation - it is easy to handle, relatively cheap and only needs to be laid on top of whatever is now in placeIt should not be physically attached to anything - it just lies thereYou can even use roll insulation atop a floor that has been installed in an atticOf course this negates future use of the attic floor2) Be sure your attic is adequately vented to the outside to control moisture 3) Your home may have eave vents and/or soffitt ventsBe sure both are completely un obstructed4) The ceilings below the attic should be at the same temperature as the room in summer or winterIf they are not add more insulation 5) If you use a second course of roll insulation install it at right angles to the first courseAgain be sure it does not block the soffitt vents6) I do not recommend blown in insulationIt does not insulate as well as roll insulation and extreme care must be exercised when it is blown in to prevent blocking the soffitt vents7) Use caution in storing items atop the roll insulation since its effectiveness is reduced if it is compressed.
