Question:

Investment Banking entry-level?

I am a current rising senior trying to pursue a full-time IB offer at a boutique or MM IB. I attend a private school in Texas that has an extremely strong network and I am looking to stay in Texas for IB. I am majoring in Finance and have a 3.1 GPA and 3.3 Finance GPA. I am now at a MM firm under MA. Any recommendations to what I should start thinking of in order to have an comp.advantage? Thanks,A

Answer:

Knowledge is power. Understand the inner workings of investment banking by keeping up to date with financial news. I find that following Bloomberg, Reuter, Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and other business and finance tweeters helps me to stay in touch. Understand the credit crunch as it's the biggest thing to hit investment banking since the great depression. I recommend The Big Short by Michael Lewis. Get a copy of To Become an Investment Banker by Heather Katsonga-Woodward. It's new and has a lot of useful info. Amazon source below.
Alot of people that go into ma are lawyers and great negotiaters . They also make great money. If you want to go into this field a law and sicology degreed would be very helpful and financially rewardimg
