Question:

Iodine fuel cells to power vehicles?

how do they work? Can you compact them to fit and run a mid-sized to large SUV or bus?would it be efficient? Are hydrogen cell cars more effective than an iodine fuel cell car would be?what does Iodine run off of, and is it self sustaining? Please, no stupid answers

Answer:

How do they work, not very well. Compact, not at present and not efficient. A metallic hydride fueled car is considerably more effective than an iodine car. Iodine fuel runs off of oxidation which presents considerable environmental problems. Self-sustaining, no; there is no large source of free iodine available.
