Question:

Is 100% silk and 100% polyester the same thing?

I purchased six 100% silk ties on eBay and I was sent six ties that say 100% polyester on the back. Are they the same thing? If not, then what‘s the difference? Is there a price/quality difference?

Answer:

I would contact the seller via your My eBay email system, and try to settle things, they did not send what you paid for so you deserve a refund. They advertised silk, you paid for silk and you got crappy polyester. Not good. Polyester is a man made synthetic polymer, created by DuPont in 1953. Cheap to make, not one of your highly coveted fabrics and it's not nearly as pretty or fashionable as silk. If you want ties that you can wash your car with and still wear the next day, then polyester might be the right fabric for you. Silk is created by silk WORMS and is a natural fiber, more valuable, much more expensive to dye and weave into fabric. Silk has a sheen to it, is easily identifiable as a high quality fabric and silk ties are hands down the classier way to go. I can spot silk a mile away, lots of people can. Give 'em hell, dear.
They are not even close to the same in price or quality. Silk is a natural fabric where polyester is a synthetic. Silk is far more expensive than polyester not as durable and requires a bit more care. The absolute best way for you to know the difference is to go to a local highend clothes store and touch a silk and a polyester shirt. The difference should be painfully obvious. I would begin whatever fraud procedure you OKorder and your method of payment provide right away.
Polyester clothing is generally considered to have a less natural feeling to it compared to natural fibers. Polyester fibers are often spun together with fibers of cotton, producing a cloth with some of the better properties of each. Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles Silk fabric is one of the expensive ones. Polyester is a cheap fabric Usually a tie (100% silk) cost $ 14.00. Polyester and silk ties might look the same, but it is absolutely 2 different fabrics.
