i have a 4year old labrador who unfortunatly i have made the mistake of letting him on sofa since he was 11weeks old,now i am considering buying a leather 3piece suite and lots of people must have this problem but are leather suites pet proof?
We have had a leather suite for as long as we have had Labs and it is still like new, no scratches or tears, except for the handle on the recliner, Milly chewed the leather off when she was a puppy, but that would have happened whether it was leather or cloth. I tend to put a throw (cover) on the sofa for when they get on, more to make it warmer for them, than to protect it, as leather can be cold when you first sit on it. A benefit of leather is that if they get it dirty you can just wash it off. Just make sure you get a good quality leather, not the cheaper thin leather.
He will scratch up the leather so bad.. Just train him to keep off the couch. Don't worry, a dog is never to old to learn new tricks. Well actually, it depends. Different dogs do different things. My friend has 3 basset hounds and every time before they are going to lay down, they scratch where they are. If your dog doesn't do this then it will probably be ok. Its smart to trim their nails also.
Right, we have a staff and he has allways been on the sofas since a pup, recently we bought 2 leather sofas, he kept jumping on them and we would shout at him to get off, eventually he learned, put his bed in the front room and he can lay in there with the family. If you would prefer him on the sofa, they scratch very very easily the first week we got it he just sat on it and there was a mark so we washed it off, but if he had stayed for longer it could well of ripped.
Nothing is ''pet proof''. Leather sofas are still victims to scratches from pet nails. Put a blanket over the couch where your dog lays, to help protect it.
