Question:

Is a surge protector necessary?

Hi,My friend said i need a surge protector for all my electrical equipment otherwise they could mess up?

Answer:

If you live in an area that has underground cabling and your electrical supply is stable, you might not need one. However, if you don't have a surge protector and lightening hits a power line, you could fry some expensive equipment. Even blowing a fuse can cause a big enough surge to burn up an electronic device. Most people protect their pc their tv.
It should already be built into the laptop. However, you don't need a $100 surge protector, computer stores have many for less than $20 (or hardware stores). Try there first, it wouldnt hurt to have extra protection.
I told my uncle he should get a surge suppressor for his electronicsTV and Receiverand he told me he didn't thing he needed one , as he was using a simple power strip about a month later a DUI driver hit a light pole near his house and the electricity was out for about 6 hours when the electricity came back on his TV did not workhe went out the next day and bought the most expensive Surge suppresor he could find at Sam's club, about a week after that he got a new TV set.
Yes if you have expensive electronics. But using a power strip can minimize damage.
