Question:

Is aluminum foil on windows really reflective to the outside?

I want to put aluminum foil on my windows so it will be darker in my room, but I'm hesitant because I'm on the 2nd floor and Im worried that the foil will be really reflective to my neighbors.Has anyone done this and know if it reflects the sun a lot?

Answer:

You have to be careful with meat and some dairy products, they don't allow some of those through customsAs long as you wrap things in cling film and seal them in plastic tubs they should be fine.
This might not be a good idea for a couple of reasonsOne is that if you have double paned window glazing (which is true on most newer or remodeled buildings) putting up the foil could result in them overheating and damage themAnd, as you expect, it will look unsightly and probably cause objectionable glare for your neighborsHave you tried room darkening pull down shades? They are cheap and easy to installYou can also get black out cloth at fabric stores like JoannsIt is beige colored but completely blocks light due to having an embedded layer of rubberI made window covers for our camping trailer with it, I cut panels the size of each window and then used self adhesive velcro around the edges of the panels and stuck to the window framesThe panels block light completely but don't look weird from the outside - they just look like beige cotton curtains or blindsPlus they are easy to remove when you actually want to have some light insideADDED: another cheaper option would be to hang plain white paper over the windows and then cover that on the inside with black plastic (you can get rolls of it at building supply stores or just cut the seams of large plastic garbage bags - get the heavy duty yard waste or the construction trash weight bags)I know ER docs who tape trash bags over the windows of the on call rooms in the hospital so they can take naps there during the day when they are on double shiftsYou want to put the paper on the outside so that the windows don't look weird to the neighbors and also to keep the sun from heating up the black plastic.
Bar cookies would ship bestThey are sturdier than regular cookiesI would bake them and remove from the pan and wrap with out cuttingThis would keep the cookie fresher by not exposing many edges to dry outWrap in plastic, several layersI don't know if you could wrap in aluminum foil, depending on where the package will be shipped I don't know if it will be X-rayed and the foil may cause problems I would check with the post office before shipping to find out if foil would be allowedPack popped popcorn around the cookiesBetter than the plastic peanuts and it can be fed to the birds.
