Question:

Is high fiber pasta low GI?

I sent my husband to buy wholemeal pasta and instead he bought high fiber white pastaWhat GI does this have? I can't seem to find out online as it just keeps sending me to recipe sites for high fiber pasta meals.

Answer:

If you're eating a lot/variety of vegetables, I don't see how you can't be getting enough fiberIn general, vegetables contain a lot of celluloseHumans can't digest celluloseIt passes though our system as fiberProtein is a different story, as is iron, but apparently you're not concerned about ironProtein is made up of amino acidsYour body makes some amino acids; the rest must come from your dietAnimal products, eggs, dairy, meat, contain all the amino acids needed for complete proteinIf you don't eat any of those, you'll need to eat a lot and a wide variety of veggies every day (not every meal) so your body can combine the amino acids each contains into the complete protein it needs to grow and functionDepending on your gender and age, you'll need 40-50 grams of complete protein a dayBTW, one serving of beans, lentils, peas, etc, every day is important because they contain one amino acid, lysineThree servings is better.
vegetables, except root veges and peasWholegrain oatmeal made without sugarNuts (have fat but good fats) Berries trimmed meat Combinations of foods, eg: low fat dairy with a vegetable
ALmost all fruits and vegetables are as described, with a few exceptions like avocado.
The GI is the same as in wholemeal It's made from the so called white wheat, that produces a wholemeal flour, without the brownish colour.
