Question:

Is it acceptable that my next door neighbor took a video of my 6 1/2 year old son singing when he was visiting their home?

I recently allowed my son to visit his friend next door, a 7 1/2 yr old boy, for the very first time. It s always the older boy who comes over for half an hour to play. We ve known our neighbors for 7 years. We re not close but are friendly due to our children. Our kids play together once or twice a month, not a lot. This first time my son visited for 30 minutes, he said that he and his played video games. At some point, my son who loves to sing and dance, sang the Bruno Mars, Uptown Funk song. He sings it really well. According to my son, the mother recorded him singing with her phone. Is this acceptable to do without my knowledge? I don t feel it s right. Isn t this a violation of privacy if they show it to other people or even among themselves. Why the need to record it. I think he was taken advantage. What do you think?

Answer:

Yes, ANY smoke can set off a SMOKE detector. I have trouble boiling water in the kitchen without setting off the smoke detector in the living room. I am about ready to try replacing the detectors throughout the home. They are relatively old anyway.
The answer is no. It is your property. It isn't against rules I presume to have the games on your flash drive but only to play the games so the punishment should be like detention or something but definitely not taking away your property. Get a trusted adult to write a letter or get in contact directly to the school and ask for it back and that should be good enough.
YES Alarms will set off with the product of combustion - SMOKE
Other than inventing about half the technology in the world and landing on the moon, I can't think of anything.
