Like i said i have a cold air intake and a o/r x pipe on my Mustang Gt. Also i have dynomax race bullets. The check engine light is on.but that should be just from not having cats anymore. And this might be a stupid question but it cant be normal for when i stop driving and get out of my car and i go touch my cold air intake.its really really hot, kinda figured it would be cool to the touch.
okay, first off you cant get flat spots from wheel bites, thats just stupid second off the only way you get flat spots is from powersliding like that one person said haha now, you might have to ask your local shop for wheel advice like which ones don't flat spot, the ones i have owened that don't flat spot are BC surf and sport wheels, Bones, and Darkstar
dont listen to the guy above me, he doesnt even know what a flat spot is! And all wheels will get flat spot eventually, but the best way to avoid it is by getting some riser pads to allow more space between the wheel and the board hope that helps!
The cold air intake is just that, it brings in cold air from somewhere outside the engine bay. The heat from the engine will raise the air temp in the pipe but not as high if it was being taken from under the hood. The check engine light is on because you broke the link between the air fuel mixture before the cats to after the cats. Gas is being added because the computer isn't reading any O2 after the cats. A cold air intake system and cat back exhaust would be a fix to your problem.
I'm going to assume you put the intake filter in the engine bay. They don't really work all that well. The only real way you see a performance increase is when you get the intake that you feed through the side wall under the fender. If you want even better performance, you get rid of the wheel well and install a 90 degree angle cover around the cone filter and you'll increase your power band in the higher rpm region. The only problem with having the intake feed underneath the fender without the wheel well is you expose some wires, vaccum line sensors, and you cant drive in the rain for too long or you'll suck up too much water. You'll have a water injected car if you drive in light rain and make some serious power but too much water will have you bend a valve and/or flood the car. Its the way I have my 99 cobra setup and I ride along side 02 ws6 trans ams and beat them in the rain!!! I've done it so I know!!!
Changing the air intake usually in it self requires a tune. Changing both the intake and the exhaust will require a tune. Removing the cats is illegal and if you are in a state that requires inspection you will have a problem. Cold air intake is a relative term as it is still going to let in warm or hot air. This warm or hot air will be cooler than the stock intake air resulting in a more dense air charge to the engine allowing the engine to burn more fuel thus increasing the HP. Get a tuner and a tune. Hope this helps. P.S. To the UTI student: Removing pollution devices is against Federal law in all 50 states. Soon during your studies you will learn that a catalytic converter is a pollution control device. Although these laws are not highly enforced they could be in the future and removing the cats is asking for trouble. A high performance catalytic converter does not significantly hinder performance.
