Question:

is it normal for the car to appear lifted temporarily after installation of new struts, with original springs?

i installed new front struts in my nissan maxima, and the front appears lifted like an extra 1.5 inches. is that normal? will it go away after driving the car a little?

Answer:

Yes, If the New struts are the Gas filled versions. As someone said, You may need to replace the rear Struts/Shocks to get the vehicle to be totally Level again. Shocks and struts that are Gas Filled, actually raise the car a bit.
the strut should never affect the ride height. the strut only controls spring oscillation (bounce). unless you replaced the springs, and you said you didn't, the ride height shouldn't have changed. unless the spring seats on the old struts were distorted downward. but this would be unlikely, unless you like to play dukes of hazzard with your car.
You may have to replace the rear springs. There is a slight chance that someone put the wrong struts on.
