Question:

Is it ok to use alumilium foil for temp fix on leaky ducts?

I know there is a special paper for patch leaky ducts in a homeI have noticed some seams seperating in my vents and some holesI covered the seams and holes with regular alumilium foil for a temp fix till I can get to lowesIs that ok? What is the name of the foil tape I need to buy to fix this?

Answer:

The heat had increased at high speed.
Sure, it's OK to use aluminum foil as a temporary fix, but I don't think it's going to do much goodAs to the tape, it's called aluminum foil duct tapeIs it the outside liner of the duct that is torn or do the ducts themselves actually have holes in them? If the ducts are in that bad of shape, you might be better off replacing all the damaged ductsAlso, I would suggest using duct mastic to seal off any air leaks you might have where the ducts are attached at the plenum and boxesLowe's should carry both the aluminum foil duct tape and the mastic.
