Question:

Is it okay to take a hot shower during a fever?

Soit felt like I had a fever/chills todayMy head hurt when I moved it too fastI then took a hot shower, layed in bed with the blanket turned on hot, etc, because I felt coldThe thermoemter then said my temperature was like 105then I started walking around the house and it went down quickly to like 98.1.Is this normal? 105 wasn't my real body temperature?

Answer:

Eat it before it has a chance to!
When your body is fighting an illness, the internal thermostat gets turned upYour body tries to get to a higher termperatureHow do you do this? You shiver, which generates heatYou feel cold, which causes you to seek heatThe same things happen when you don't have a fever but your body isn't warm enoughYou overshot with the shower and blanketYou heated your body temperature up higher than your thermostat was aiming forPlease be carefulAt 107 degrees, you can start to have altered consciousness and seizuresWhen you got out of bed, your body temperature droppedYour body was probably aiming for about 100 degrees, and the 98.1 is just measurement errorYour mouth, ear, or armpit are not always the same temperature as the inside core of your body, so readings can sometimes be lower than your real body temperature.
