Question:

Is it okay to wear gloves when trying to tame a cockatiel?

A few days ago, my husband and I adopted 2 cockatiels from the animal shelter. They're a bonded pair and are 3 years old. I don't think they were ever intentionally neglected. Their owner had died.Anyhow, the female is a bit hesitant to come, but her bites aren't too bad. In fact, she willingly came onto my hand today. The other one though is very scared and I think protective of his cage. I've dealt with this before, but man, this guy is a biter. Even when I first adopted my senegal parrot, he didn't even bite the way this guy does. In one attack today, the area by my thumb is torn, I have a puncture on my pointer finger that wouldn't stop bleeding and my knuckle was bloody, not to mention the swollen bruise on my pointer. When he did this, I didn't pull away or make a sound, but man - it doesn't feel good. lol He bites when I give food and water as well. Would it be alright to wear a glove when trying to handle him? I don't want to scare him even further, but my hands are looking horrible.

Answer:

You will need to replace the smoke alarm battery's this should fix the problem. After that test your smoke alarm, if it works it will beep for another 5 minutes then stop beeping.
It saddens me that ANYONE at all feels that they should behave like that - regardless of age. There are different crazes for every generation I know but it doesn't mean that you have to follow the pack whatever age group you belong to. To live we must eat and sleep and to be able to eat and have a place to sleep we need to earn money. To earn money we must look employable. You mention nothing about going out to work and you certainly would not be fit for work if this really is your lifestyle. I guess that means you live with parents and that they pay all your bills. Give them a break and start behaving like the age you are and pay your way in life, eventually getting your own place (not paid for by parents or the state) then you truly will be able to call yourself an adult. At the moment you are an overgrown child. On the other hand you could just be bragging and have made all this up to get a reaction.
You can't really upgrade the ice crusher in your refrigerator. Try getting an inexpensive blender that you can place the crushed ice in to make it smaller.
