Is it possible to convert a combi boiler running off mains gas to bottled propane?

Answer:

Yes, it's a fairly simple process. Bad news is, you need to call a tech.
Yes. You need to contact the manufacturer for an L.P.G conversion kit for your make and model of boiler. Some boilers are being made slowly obselete so you may have a bit of difficulty but if its less than 5 years old you should have no bother. A good place to get the conversion kit is HRPC (part of the CENTER branches eg PlumbCenter, BuildCenter, Electrical, Drain, Pipe etc...) they are nation wide. Another good one is PLUMBASE as they have a parts counter. If you have the installation guide then you are laughing, just take that into them and ask for it. Usually its a series of jets to be replaced in the older boilers but if its one of the newer condensing types its often a case of adjusting the inlet pressure on the gas valve and then checking the mixture with a flue gas annalyser! No parts! Conversion kits range hugely from ?25 to ?90 on average. Your engineer must be GAS SAFE (formerly CORGI - see the logo on my profile? Thats what it looks like. Ask to see his card) and will be able to do this quite easily. Converting it over with jets takes about an hour, usually less but it depends on the boiler. Running it off bottled propane really eats it fast so make sure you dont leave it running! Get a good timer and make sure its off! To change the tanks over on a domestic property you need a qualified person to do it - its not the same as changing the bottle over on a caravan or boat. The physical act is - but for legal you need to have it legally tightness tested each time. Check out the legal side by calling Gas Safe, they are very helpfull and dont mind average Joe Public calling at all, in fact they encourage it. But YES is the answer for 99% of cases Good luck and if you want to know more just submit more info and ask away!
