Question:

Is it possible to make a 12v battery pack by using 1 transistor battery and 2 double A's?

I heard it was possible to make a portable 12v source by combining 1 transistor battery and 2 double A's. The reason being is because I am wanting to test some 12v cold cathode lights that I bought for my car and test out different positions in the car before I hard wire them. Will this work? Are batteries DC?

Answer:

Your best bet is a lawn and garden battery. It's only about 8 lbs. They have good power for $20 and are 12 v dc.
With the losses inherent in the motor and the alternator, the battery will gradually go flat. Actually a motor itself puts some power back into the circuit, it uses a lot to start but them the amount of current drops considerable as it runs. I'm not sure what your question has to do with cars and transportation though.
What is a transistor battery? Two AAs will produce 3V. Obviously you need to get 9 more volts from somewhere.
