Question:

is it possible to make a fountain out of an old sink and faucet.?

I would like to give a sink and faucet the appearance of having plumbing for display purposes. Is it possible to use a fountain mechanism to create that effect. I'd like to be able to turn a handle and have the water flow, then drain back down into a basin to be pumped through continuously if left on. but able to be shut off by simply turning the handle back to the off position.

Answer:

Yes you can. I use old T.V. dishes that get tossed out all the time. I use them as step fountains, very nice in the garden.
go to any gardening centre and just look at the pump packaging . most have basic instructions on back , then just improvise... or look at the magazines in there ther is bound to be some info
Yes its simple enough when you get the pump. The key is to install an in-line filter - to collect any rubbish people put into it. You will have to turn the pump off and on - but there are pumps out there that - for example you can have the pump running all day and turn it off overnight.
yes, the faucet would either have to be a switch to turn the pump on and off or a valve by which the constantly pumping water is diverted from a self contained tank to run through the sink
It may be less expensive to buy a 12vdc RV pump but then you'll need a car battery or 120vac/12vdc converter. Won't hurt to check w/the pump mfg to insure your no flow (valve closed) time won't hurt the pump. Install a filter on the pump suction line and you should be good to go...
