Question:

is it risky to buy a cheap intake tubes and put a k&n filter? wil it be better or is there a risk of messin up

2001 mustang

Answer:

All intake tubes are just simple tubes. They perform all the same. I have cheapy intakes on my Civic and they work great. The reason short (cold) air intakes work is NOT because they are engineered well. NO! It is because the original air box were so restrictive - due to noise restrictions. Just make sure you DON'T get metal tube intakes. The get heat soaked and significally warm up the air. The intakes make of PVC (or plastic) gets warm but will not release its heat to the air as much. === If you really want performance gain, you should also do the header pipes (if the mustand did not come with factory pipes). Long time ago, people most did exhaust header pipes only. Besides the intake is artificially RESTRICTED by the butterfly at the throttle. So the intake only makes a difference on WIDE OPEN THROTTLE acceleration. Good Luck... P.S. Just make sure you get intake pipes DESIGNED for your car. Otherwise they would expect you to some customizing like cutting and drilling, etc.
Yes as cheap kits do not have all fiters, vavles, and cnnecters to sensors in universal apps. You may end up worse then before installed.
No you should be perfectly fine. As long as you are using the genuine KN cone filter on the end of it. People starting running into trouble when they start using cheapo OKorder filters. Which is a no-no. In THIS situation a pipe is a pipe. Do eeet.
The person above me gave you some real good insight. The KN filter is your best bet. The plastic tubing you should be able to get at the same place you get your filter though. We have always gotten our stuff from there also.
