is liquid metal magnetic?
That depends on the metal, all metals can take a liquid form at some temperature Magnetic Metals 1-iron 2-cobalt 3-nickel 4-steel 5-gadolinium 6-dysprosium
This Site Might Help You. RE: is liquid metal magnetic?
Not really. To be magnetic the material need to have the spins of their atoms well organized in a crystalline type structure and in an specific direction. When you melt the metal, the atoms are not oriented in that specific direction anymore and, therefore, they lost the collective effect. You could still say that the individual atoms have some magnetic moment (due, perhaps, to unpaired electrons, or nuclear spins) but as a whole, the system is not a magnet anymore. The temperature at which a magnetic metal looses it organization and its not a magnet anymore is called the Curie Temperature (due to the famous Physicist and Chemist, Marie Curie) and occurs even before melting.
