Is silicon steel a metal material?
There are two kinds of silicon steel sheets, cold rolling and hot rolling, and cold-rolled silicon steel sheets are used more. Cold rolled silicon steel sheet has fine magnetic properties along the rolling direction. It has not only high saturation magnetic flux density and low iron loss in the high magnetic field, but also good magnetism in the weak magnetic field (large initial permeability). This is because the cold rolling process causes the impurity content in the steel plate to decrease, and causes the coarse grain in the steel piece, causes the permeability to increase, the hysteresis loss reduces.
Silicon is a good deoxidizer for steel, which combines with oxygen to convert oxygen into a stable, non carbon reduced SiO2, avoiding the lattice distortion of iron due to the doping of oxygen atoms. Silicon becomes a solid solution in alpha iron, increasing resistivity, and helping to separate harmful impurities from carbon. Therefore, the addition of iron containing impurities can increase permeability, reduce coercivity and iron loss. But the increase of silicon content will make the material become hard and brittle, and the thermal conductivity and toughness will decrease. It is harmful to heat dissipation and mechanical processing, so the silicon content of the general silicon steel sheet is not more than 4.5%.
