I currently have an HP Pavilion dv2000 that has a VGA output, but I also have the LG W2253TQ monitor that takes DVI input. My graphics card should be able to support DVI, but I was wondering what I would need to buy to connect the two. Would DVI-I work? Or only DVI-D? Or is it even necessary?
The ability of doing dual monitors vary depending on the model for available video outputs like the VGA D-Sub and DVI. Just plug in the external LCD monitor into the VGA output female connector on the laptop. Use settings on your OS to configure dual screens. The most general way is to do the following: Windows XP: -Right click desktop and go to properties. -Use the settings tab. -If your monitor is already plugged in, there should be a box with the number 2. To verify for sure that the monitor is properly connected and recognized by the system and OS, click Identify near the bottom to show numbers on the screen themselves, with your laptop's LCD showing a 1 and the external monitor showing a 2. -Next, select the box/screen 2 and check, Extend my Windows onto this monitor. -Optional: If you want to set the external screen to any position relative to how you see them, you can drag the #2 box around. -Click Apply/OK. Windows Vista: -Goto display settings, same as XP. -Follow the same instructions as XP.
In order to connect your computer a TV you will need some type of video output on your computer and/or video input on your TV. Many video cards will have an S-video out connection on the back of the computer that you can use to connect to your TV. Or if your TV has a VGA input you can connect a VGA cable from where your monitor goes on the back of the computer to this VGA input on your TV. Basically you need some sort of video output on the computer and input on the TV that will work together.
