Question:

Is there a way to make my magnetic strip on my bank card work?

The magnetic strip on my bank card is all worn out I have to order a new one but while waiting I need to use the card and people in lines give me a dirty look and I sometimes get an attitude when I have to ask the cashier to punch in the number. Is there anything I can rub onto it, or anything I can do to make the strip work? I tried the plastic bag trick and still no luck.

Answer:

Not really. Theoretically, the stripe could be rewritten by the same type of machine that wrote it in the first place, but that would take even longer than waiting for your new card. Often, the magnetic material in the stripe gets rubbed or scraped off. If that is the case, the card can't even be rewritten. Hang in there. It should be less than a week to get the new card. You can delay some purchases that long, can't you?
cashiers can use a plastic bag over the mag strip and swipe it. that usually works. looks weird but it works.
Sorry, you will have to order a new one.
