Question:

Is there money to be made in recycling?

Hello all,In these difficult economic times Im always looking to see different ways to make alittle money.(even if its just alittle extra). Well we recycle everything and I was thinking of coordinating a neighborhood recycling effort and does anyone know is there a way to sell these household plastics, aluminum, and newspaper? Again im not looking to be the next billionaire; just another way to pay the bills. Oh I live in FL if that makes a difference. Thanks again and Happy Holidays.

Answer:

The price of metals such as gold, copper, aluminum has come down quite a bit from the summer high. The money isn't what it was , but you can probably make a few hundred a month. Aluminum cans seems to be what most of us recycle. Beer and soda cans are plentiful whereever folks gather. Sports events, bars, and beaches often are a good place to find these things.
It depends on how you go about the business, if your sales pitch is right you can make some good cash
Our local metal recycling center pays for aluminum cans and other metal items. (We sold our broken hot water heater for $12 there and I take our soda cans there). There are grants available to start local recycling efforts. Check the web for them. Kudos to you for doing the right thing. Making money at it is the next step. You may offer your like minded neighbors that you will take their recycling to the recycling center for a small fee for those areas that don't get public pickup service. Good luck.
