Question:

Jack Issues with Lexus 06 GS 430. 1) Has anyone used the scissor jack that comes with the car or another?

Toyota? Here are my observations: I do not like that thing at all. The scissor jack on my GS 430 with the U grove does not even come in contact with the pinch weld. It meets the side molding/running board (Rocker Panels) and on the other side it hits the soft bonding material. I can see that damaging both sides until the jack makes contact with the pinch weld. Anyone see smashing or denting using this jack? Especially on the front which it will hit the running board/molding Rocker Panels?2)Using a floor jack: one with a small cup.Has anyone seen a pinch weld fail or fold over? Lexus’ pinch weld sure look flimsy compared to other cars I have owned. Anyone use lift blocks or hockey pucks between the jack and the pinch weld? I stopped by Discount Tire and asked them how they would lift the car ; they would use the pinch weld and block pads. That would put the entire load on the pinch weld. were do you get those pads? Is it safe to use the floor jack directly on the PW? Tha

Answer:

All scissor jacks are crap. They are made for emergency use only. (Never trust a scissor jack to hold up any car if you plan to work under it) If your working on your Lexus then you are in the minority of Lexus owners. When using a floor jack you should find another point on the car to contact. If you rotating tires for instance. contact the jack on the axle and use jack stands to hold in position.
Yes. Make sure the vents are clean and don't block the vents with your leg, clothing, etc. Also, make sure you can hear the fan running. Also, don't use it on your lap if it's plugged in. It gets hotter when it's plugged in because it's using power AND charging at the same time.
no,i dont like those jacks.i have 1 in the trunk, but thats where it stays.i use a small hydrolic jack, its the best.

If careful, you can lift the car buy the pinch weld. Check your owners manual for proper lift points.
