To add to oc's answer: as soon as a hydrant is opened, water flows out, flushing things out, not in. They call it tap water because it usually is used with a tap. A tap is another name for a faucet.
Depends on whether you have OCD or not.
If you're the only one in your car just drive over it with your right wheel (Unless you drive in the UK) so you won't bounce up and down, unless you don't mind it. If you had someone sitting in the passenger seat and wanted them to feel comfortable you drive over the bump with your left wheel (Vice Versa for UK). Unless it's wide speed bump, then you shouldn't mind driving over those with both wheels, it's the small thin ones that are annoying.
And not one person considered the dust factor in the detector. fouled units are often set off by steam, because it releases bits of whatever the dust is made of, into the detector. If there was a cigarette smoker near it for some time, or heavy smokers in the room ( smoking section) then yes, steam could rattle the smoky dust loose into the sensor of the detector. The fan that typically runs during the shower would just make matters worse, by moving the damp loose dust even more.
