i am going to put laminate flooring in my condo. i want to know if i can do the whole house as one contiguous floor or if i should break up the rooms.
It's better to break up the rooms. That way, if something happens in one room, that's all you have to replace. Otherwise, you have to replace all the entire thing, and insurance will only pay to the door.(line of sight)
My parents did some contiguously and some stopping at rooms with a door jamb at your feet to indicate another room. Frankly I think it looks a little cold. Add some rugs... lots of 'em!
I have laminate it has a few good points but very few. It can be a nightmare to lay it through doorways , it is noisy to walk on , it shows up evry bit of dust or fluff if you have pets you will have fur cleaning issues everyday. I would nver lay it again if I could advise you i would say lay it in one room to see if you like it or not before doing you whole house
I m agreeing with most people but for a completely different reason. Laminate flooring , when done in that big a section, must be broken every so often ( average is 22/25 ft) so as the floor will expand and contract normally w/o buckling ... So door ways are an ideal location..So you ll need to use a T molding if continuing on w/ laminate. Any flooring question you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
I think aesthetically, a continuous floor looks a little bit nicer, but practically, you should break it up. First off, if it's a click-lock system (most laminate is), the longer a continuous stretch you have, the more likely you are to get gaps or bowing over time (of course, bowing is much less likely if you leave proper expansion space around walls). Second, as another answer has pointed out, one part of the floor may be damaged, or you or a later owner may simply want to change a floor in one room. Separating the rooms allows you that flexibility.
