Question:

Landlord and bed bugs?

Is the landlord responsible for the cost to remove bed bugs in the state of Vermont? I read they are responsible to keep the place clean and safe... Bed bugs to me seem like they make the place not safe... You get a bite you itch it you get infected you arm get cut off (ok exaggerating but still)... So my question is he responsible for the cost to remove them?

Answer:

No he is not responsible unless bed bugs were found during the walk through. Bed bugs are not a result of poor housekeeping. Anyone can have bed bugs. People bring bed bugs into their homes unknowingly in infested luggage, backpacks, purses, furniture, bedding, shoes or clothing. They can also travel between apartments through cracks in walls and floors. It's your bed, you sleep in it. Why would the landlord be responsible for your bed bugs? Throw away your mattress, clean your room, box spring, and sheets, and buy a new mattress.
it could be extraordinarily annoying to sue the owner if he's sending exterminators to restoration the situation. in case you're bent on suing somebody, how relating to the exterminator co? You suggested getting the pests on and stale. the place do the recent ones come from after a perfect extermination?
