Question:

Laptop RAM?

I know that desktops have different pin sizes for their RAM, is this the same for laptops? All the RAM for laptops I have seen are 200pin

Answer:

The memory for laptops does vary. But just as there are some common sizes for desktop memory, so the 200 pin is currently the most common size for laptop memory. But not the only.
I always use Crucial to find memory. They guarentee a match and it is well worth that guarentee. You can either plug in your information in a 3 step process or let it scan your computer. It will even tell you which slots are populated so you don't have to look. You can use it to get the type of memory and then go shopping elsewhere, but they have great prices too.
the number of pins vary for different RAM technologies desktops SDRAM: 168 pin DDR: 184 pin DDR2 DDR3: 240 pin laptops SDRAM: 144 pin DDR DDR2: 200 pin (differently coded) 2 special variants for laptops (rarely used) DDR Micro-Dimm: 172 pin DDR2 Micro-Dimm: 214 pin
it's not always about the pins it is the size of the ram or the dimentions .but yes it has a different dimentions . ex. if you want to install a ram of 333 mhz in the palce of the 533 mhz you will not be able because the dimentions will be different( it will not fit ).
