Question:

Large pond is architecturally flawedNeed some cash conscious ways of repairing the most prominent issues?

Mom bought a house with a huge pond about 35x60'This thing has loads of problemsIt sits in a swampy area with a high water tableIt's a rectangular ditch with a circular tree island in the middle of itIt's fed by a natural stream that dries out in dry months and drains from a single overflow pipe that can't handle heavy rains and overflows the land bridge draining into another creekThe sides are eroding and it's relatively shallow due to the erosion and presumably the stuff washed down by the streamThe mud within the pond acts like quicksand; it's about 2-4' deepA slip or fall could end with a person drowning There are serious issues with algae blooms and in the winter it freezes solidWhile there are loads of animals in here and almost appears to be self sufficient I want to know what I can do to fix the above problemsFilling it in is not an option as it's natural swamp land and in the path of 2 connecting creeksI want a sustainable koi pondThanks!

Answer:

The mercury containing preservative thimerosal has not been in any required childhood vaccines for nearly a decadeSome still contain trace amounts, but this amount is far, far less than environmental exposureAdditionally, the amount of formaldehyde in vaccines is minusculeYou'd get much more from foodThe aluminum in vaccines is also harmless at the levels used.
There's an old saying that's relevant here: the dose makes the poisonJust because something is poisonous in everyday quantities, doesn't mean it is in smaller quantitiesEssentially all drugs and medications are potentially toxic because they alter the way our body worksThe reason we aren't poisoned is that we use them in small doses One of the most toxic substances in the world is botulinum toxin, over 1 million times more poisonous than cyanide and yet is used safely under the brand name Botox because they use only a tiny dose The world's most popular drug, caffeine, is 4 times more toxic than formaldehydeMost of the people who complain about mercury or aluminium or formaldehyde are poorly informed and just trying to scare youVaccines are made under such extremely controlled conditions that they can tell down to the microgram level what it is made fromThis is not true of most other productsPeople read the ingredient list, see something that is toxic in huge amounts and freak outDid you know our bodies make formaldehyde naturally and excrete it, or that you get far more mercury from eating fish than you could ever get from vaccines? Thiomersal is broken down as ethylmercury which is excreted much faster than the methylmercury you get from fishIn fact it was because they only had safety data for methylmercury that they stopped putting it in childhood vaccinesThere was no proven risk and it probably would have still fallen under the recommended exposure limitsNevertheless, mercury is never used in childhood vaccines, and hardly ever used in othersAluminium is not used as an adjuvant in most vaccines, again, they are just trying to scare youYour pediatrician is right, I would ask them to clarify if you are still concerned, as they will be in a much better position to answer than a bunch of strangers on the internet.
Ok, I read your question the other day and have since been thinking about it ! My dads pond it basically the same kind of situationBecause it sits in a natural swampy area it's going to be hard to control erosion of the pond wallsThe swamp is naturally peat based, which is softMy only suggestion would to be to have it dredged, which of course is not in your cost effective plan( most dredging companies will pay YOU for the peat !) If you could have it dredged, you can layer the sides and bottom w/ gravel/ sand mix,but eventually it will settle down into the peat.If you could replace the overflow w/ a much bigger one that would help alot.Although I would recommend that it be screened to prevent loss of fishThe algae blooms are caused by the shallowness of the pond(it gets too warm) and no water movementYou would have to add in a large pump to airate the water. If it's so shallow it freezes solid, it's not nearly deep enough for koiYou might be better off making this a natural wildlife pond, attracting deer, ducks, geese and cranes! Koi ponds are wonderful and they are hardy fish, but best if kept in a pond that you can adjust water flow, treat for diseases, and keeping your fish safe from predators.
I can't remember what the name of the preservative was that was causing all the issues back in the day, but I did just read recently that even if its not in some vaccines, its often in flu shots and swine flu shots, etcAlso, I think personally I would rather do seperate shots because I think that there may be a link to the amount of vaccines children are exposed to at a time.but I'm very paranoidPeople will say that the goverment is doing things safely but I don't believe itIf that were the case there wouldn't be all these drug recalls for meds that kill or seriously injure peopleThe govt and drug companies just want to make money, even if it means sacrificing our childrenI still plan on getting my child vaccinated but on a slower schedule and individual shots verses the 3 combo ones, and splitting them upYou honestly can't know for sure.they're going to cover it up if something is bad because they don't want a bunch of law suits.
