we are unit 1 in our apartment building, unit 2 burnt downthe fire went into our laundry room and smoldered in the insulation of my son's ceilingthe landlord, who we have spoken to about how we felt, is trying to get things fixedbut i feel as though this apartment is not safe for my 7 month old son especially since they are going to have to tare down all the insulation and replace itif we feel it is not safe for our son, is there any way we can get out of the lease? my landlord will not comprimise bc all she cares about is money and not our feelings or our sonwe need to know if there are any loop holes or ways to get us out of this stinky, sooty apt! ps, we were idiots and did not have renters insurance so hotels and such are out of the questionwe are gettin it now lolalso what are the medical things that insulation causes in infants as well as mild smoke damage and such
Our children's babysitter did this one for her project (8thgrade) this yearShe used our computer to type everything up, so I remember there were tons of resources to be usedthe major gum manufacturer is Wrigleys and had an awesome site full of infoOne thing to keep in mind is that Wrigley manufatures most brands of gum- which meant that of the 8 kinds she bought to try 7 were actually made by Wrigleys and at the last minute more had to be purchased to accurately assess how long the flavor lastedCHeck out the Weigleys website and jot down a l;ist of theirs and you should be fineBest Luck!!
This is not a lease breaking situation in any fashionYour landlord will be required to observe appropriate safety rules when repairing and replacing the insulationContractors will generally seal the room openings with plastic film to keep any residues contained to the room, where it can be vacuumed up before re-opening the spaceThe only legal way you could break the lease is if the health department declared the premises unsafe for human habitation, and chances of that are rather slim, since the damage to your unit is minimalAs long as the insulation is not asbestos bearing, there is generally no health concern to humansThe same goes for smoke damageWhile smelly, it's not harmful.
