Leather treatment? sofa restoration?I’ve just bought a 2nd hand huge leather Chesterfield sofa with a genuine distressed leather look and some tiny cat scratches. I was told to get some leather treatment on it, but have absolutely no idea were to start.Any top tips anyone?
You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish contains silicones BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. They are very strong alkiline cleaners to neutralise urine (acid) on babys skin so they are not the right thing to use on leather. Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays furniture. A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it.
Rip your coauch more, and tell the company to replace it! LOL
the only tip i can think of is to call a dry cleaner and find out what they use on leather or a furniture restorer. both in the yellow pages
Search the internet for leather restore There are a number of companys that sell kits for restoration. I have used one to recolor the seat cushions on my sofa with very nice results.
