Question:

Light Spectrum and Photosynthesis?

How is the light Spectrum Important to photosynthesis? As much detail as possible!! thanks !

Answer:

Plants only use certain colors of light in the visible spectrum. Plants use red and blue light for photosynthesis. The chlorophyll pigments in the chloroplasts absorb light in this range (red and blue) and then the light energy is converted to sugars in the next step of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll a absorbs light in the 430 nm (blue) and 680 nm (red) range and chlorophyll b is in the 450nm (blue) and 64 nm (red) range.
