Question:

Lighting myth?

Is it true that it's a myth that carrying a golf club around or a sword or something during a thunderstorm will NOT attract lighting? If it IS a myth, are lightning rods worthless? I'm just asking this because I heard that it's a myth on the show modern marvels.

Answer:

dude. thats a cool xmas present
sorry, but you can probably kiss your career goodbye, you really should have checked with the administrator before you did this, that's why they are the administrator, they administer things related to the school. you will probably be fired, possibly pay a fine, maybe have to reimburse the fire department for showing up and pay for any damage done by the sprinkler system. kudos to you for taking the kids welfare to heart, but you really should have been a little more responsible before doing it. sorry I don't know as much about sprinkler systems as qs does, but if he read the question, he would see that it was stated that a police report was taken. and he filed a report to Police as well. sorry, I was just preparing you for the worst case scenario.
Of course the water sprinklers didn't go off, as the answer above me implies. Everyone knows that water sprinklers only dispense water, when the heat of the fire melts a mechanism in the sprinkler head. There is a charge for intentionally setting off a fire alarm. It is a misdemeanor and could (but rarely does) result in arrest. Most often a fine. In your situation, the fire alarm was completely unintentional. So no police report will be taken. The school administrator sounds like a jerk anyway. He might try to punish or harass you, but the police and fire department won't. Thank you for putting the extra effort into cleaning up your classroom so that the kids will have a good and safe learning environment.
