Ok so I went to this crystal store today and got a quarts, and it might have started with and I maybe? But I know it's quartz and I was wondering if anyone could list all the types of quarts but not what they do, just their names. I'm sure that if I heard it I would remember. Thanks!
not really an effusion in that sense of the word. It is quite common for a metamorphic system to have an aqueous phase (more rarely a simple CO2-dominant phase) in coexistence with the minerals, and trace metals mobilized in this fluid phase may get captured during crystal growth, resulting in unique colorations or mineral varieties. Quatz varieties based on coloration are fairly common (rose quartz, smoky quartz, amethyst). Feldspar is not so much colored by trace element contents as the mineral already has a primary coloration from its major element constituents. Many gemstones are simply uniquely colored common minerals (ruby, emerald) and sometimes you get some interesting color variations with cryptocrystalline and/or hydrous forms of some minerals (quartz most commonly) such as opal, chalcedony, agate, but other minerals also show color variations according to secondary chemical substituition and other causes (think malachite and azurite as an example). Generally speaking, it is much easier to have element mobility and thus color variations or banding in the presence of a coexisting liquid or vapor phase (even magmas serve that purpose at times). Solid state migration does occur but is generally slow and thus limited in distance. For me, effusion implies a solid-state forcing out of elements from a crystal structure. not sure if that is what it means to you. there is often an effusion occurring within the system but it is from solid into the liquid/vapor phase (or the reverse infusion from liquid into solid); the volatile phase is the transporting agent.
