Scott is a good company. The speedster models are there lower end stuff. But if it works OK for $250 I'd buy it. 800 miles isn't much if cared for. If it's the one available on Craig's list buy if in good shape. You can't touch a road bike for $250 new.
Whilst I don't know anything about THAT bike, I will let you know that I commute on a bike with a similar spec. It's fine - go with it! I agree with the first poster, in that a groupset upgrade would outweigh the cost of the bike. Stick with it and just tweak a few bits n bobs, as and when required(tyres, etc) If I assume that you intend to join the world of 'roadies' then in 18 months or so upgrade your bike and you will notice a big difference and improved performance. Best of luck. .
if the bike fits, it seems like a decent price. the sora components are entry level (you may already know this) and the 53t ring is awfully big for a beginer. whats the rear cassette like? the most important thing is fit. check your stand over height most else can be adjusted and new stems can be bought. consider upgrading the groupset when you have the chance though that will be more $ than you spent on the bike.
Scott. Made in the USA, kick butt geometry, good lookin' bike. I say get it, just upgrade the Sora to at least 105.
