I have a 1998 Chevy Saturn -64,000.00 miles. I was driving and heard a small sound like something was loose and then it became very loud. It was the noise that a busted muffler makes. When I stopped the car the muffler was fine -lifted the hood and it seemed to be coming from the engine. Temp gage rest of way home about 5 miles was normal but still very loud. The car has been leaking oil for sometime -i would add 1 quart of oil per month. Still had oil in when I checked the dip stick.Any ideas -THANK YOU.
Odds are that your mid-pipe section rusted through / separated. Or, the beginning of the exhaust system separated from the catalytic converter. Either crawl under the car, or pull into a service station and have them put it up on a lift. It should be obvious, if either of those things happened.
go to your nearest sears auto shop and they wll put it on the lift and give you a free estimate.there is no need to do any crawling under the car.its free and you just tell them you need time to decide.i do this all the time, then you will know just what needs to be done. if the price is off the hook you just go else were,at least you know what your dealing with.ps if your a women take a male with you so they think you have someone who has an idea about cars even if they don't tell him to be quiet and just listen.auto shops take advantage of a women when a women is on her own and estimates are free of charge at most auto shops.
