Question:

Manual Transmission?

What are good tips for driving a manual transmission car?

Answer:

when you first start out, DO NOT get in a position where you need to accelerate off a hill from a complete stop. Getting use to a manual clutch on a hill takes a little bit of time to master. When driving down a hill, you can use engine compression to slow your vehicle down, which will help conserve your brakes emensely. Cruising around town and shifting without revving high will help conserve fuel mileage. When parking, leave the car in gear, which will save use of emergency brakes.
Front brake is stopping power, back brake is control. Practice locking up the back wheel into a skid to determine your limits for stopping while having control. You should never lock up your front wheel. Many cruiser bikes don't even have front brakes. And if you ever wheelie, you need to ride the back brake to bring the front back down.
Remember most engine overspeeding damage comes from prematurely downshifting, not over-revving. Use your engine to help slow you down but remember, if it is slick out, engine braking can cause sliding, as well.Never slip your clutch to stay in place on a hill.set the park brake, then let the clutch out slowly when you want to go, as soon as the engine starts to bog down, release the brake and take off.it takes some practice , but you will get the hang of it soo n. Good Luck.
apply the front brake gently as you are doing this start to add the back brake to slow you down more add a bit more front brake to bring you to a controlled stop, using to much front alters the stability of the bike by putting all the weight at the front by using your back brake you stabilize the bike allowing you to stop safely
constaly check change oil! check clutch fluid to! when stop lights click down to nutral instead of using the clutch so much! don't just change gears fast, make sure u do it right! try to get the hihg revs before changing gears (right in the middle of the red zone, then change gears, u don't wanna over rev or short shift) changing gear right will keep ur transmission alive for so much longer so do it carfully! cause their frican expensive!
