Yes you can load DQF's (LD-8's) on a 777. But on a long flight, say HKG-LAX, since LD-8's are shorter and smaller than AKE's (LD-3's) airlines might not want to load them because they waste space. And they would prefer to fill as much of the plane as possible. DQF's were created for the mid-size widebody, like the 767 and a 777 is a full size widebody. In the same manner, you can load an LD-3 on a 767 but you will waste a lot of space also.
