I am looking at a 1997 Mercedes E420 sedan. I live in central NY, so winter performance is a concern for me. I would definitely want to put good snow tires on it all around, but even with snow tires, how does the RWD layout fare in NY snow? Also, what are some issues to look for in this kind of car? Thanks!

Shape: The angles of the structure have been mentioned but without explanation. The sides can't be vertical. That reflects a signal right back to its source. So the angles used in the construction have to be more than 90 degrees reflexive angles. That tends to reflect the signal away from the signal source. Materials: I'm no chemist. But stuff like polymers (kind of like plastic) and carbon fiber are going to be less reflective than metal. There's going to be a trade-off between stealth and strength. Some parts of a vehicle are going to be made of steel. Presumably these parts will be coated with non-reflective stuff as much as possible. I believe some paint is supposed to be able to dampen a radar signal. But nothing's invisible. Birds have been picked up on early warning radar and they don't have too many metal parts or perfectly vertical surfaces. The idea is to present as small an image on radar as possible so as to convince the operator that it's just a bird something that's not going to cause concern.
Those are highly classified areas. You might have to wait 20 or so years for that to be made public. For now call it magic or pixie dust.
