Question:

Motorcycle brake light backpack?

Im looking to wire the rear of my backpack with a few RGB Led's to turn on when braking on my motorcycle, or even flash when taking a turn. I have already bought an Adafruit FLORA to run this project, but I need a way to wirelessly activate these led's using the circuitry in my bike. I was thinking about using some sort of radio transmitter and receiver to turn on when the lights turn on / flash , etc. but im really not familiar with what I would need or the circuitry. Adafruit has done a similar project but it is all controlled by a remot control which I want to bypass completely. (assuming you are familiar with the products) Would it be possible to buy such a remote and wire is some sort of transistor to activate it using the 12V supply on the bike? Any suggestions are appreciated

Answer:

hello 1-the leds are not far to use remote system 2-on driving you can not use a remote with your hand.. 3- working an strange light dance may distract back vehicles... if you are interested in adding some devices on your motorcycle... you may add RPM meter....Tank guage....motor temperature... good luck
You could use a HC-05 Bluetooth module master and slave, but that would require 20 mA of battery power from the backpack, and a micro controller on the motorcycle to process the brake or turn signal to serial data for the Bluetooth. Probably better would be the 315 MHz remote transmitter for the motorcycle (buttons soldered to opto isolators for turn directions and brake) and the receiver output attached to the flora.
