Question:

Muzzle-loader accuracy?

Whats the farthest distance that a 50 caliber hunting muzzle-loader would be able to accurately kill a deer?

Answer:

The maximum point blank range is 185 yards. It is possible to kill one farther but for the average shooter past 185 yards will require a lot of luck to kill one
You should swab the barrel at least every third shot and preferably more like every other shot. If you don't, the projectile can jam on its way down the barrel. I owned a Thompson-Center Hawken many years ago and went through having projectiles jam. NEVER fire the gun in an attempt to unjam a projectile should one get stuick.
Depends on the shooter, accuracy of the weapon ,windage, elevation, your willingness to squeeze the trigger. All are factors.
as most will say depends on your skills. i have killed one with a deerstalker 50 cal muzzleloader at about 100 yards. and thats pushing it for that rifle so id say about 150 yards and id feel comfortable
300yds is about it for someone really good with right load. Most people can only shoot about 100yds to 150yds with a scope.
